Fine Northern Italian Eatery Moors at The Spit

Alessandro Pavoni’s ‘Ormeggio’ is now open at d’Albora Marinas.

Northern Italian chef Alessandro Pavoni, is at the helm of a new waterside eatery set to reinvigorate The Spit, transforming the working d’Albora Marinas into an up market dining destination and stunning harbourside location.

Named Ormeggio, which means berth or mooring in Italian, the newly rebuilt seaside restaurant, bar and take-away kiosk opens in November; just in time for the completion of improvements to Spit West Reserve, leading to The Spit Bridge.

Alessandro, from Brescia, Italy, for the past four years has headed up a team of 30 chefs at the Park Hyatt’s HarbourKitchenBar.  He is now bringing his renowned Northern Italian fare to the North Shore and within close reach of the Northern Beaches and surrounds.

In announcing plans for his new restaurant, Alessandro says he is thrilled to be steering his own ship.  “I am focusing on the cuisine of the lakes area of northern Italy, because it’s the regional cuisine that runs in my blood.”

“I love to embrace traditional recipes that have been handed down through the families of my region – and in particular my grandmother, who was a tremendous cook.  I will also be taking inspiration from phenomenal Italian chefs whom I worked with such as Iginio Massari and Giuseppe Maffioli of Carlo Magno, and master chefs I have studied under including Frederic Bourse, Luigi Biasetto, Davide Oldani, Claudio Sadler and Achille Zoia.”

“The look and feel of Ormeggio is naturally nautical, casual and coastal – with great quality and authentic Northern Italian dishes. Given our striking waterside location and dockside setting at d’Albora Marinas, and the influence taken from the lakes region of Northern Italy, we’re going to do loads of beautiful seafood as well as the game meats and polenta that my region is famous for. Ormeggio will be a place where diners can look forward to unwinding and enjoying a totally European experience, in an exclusive Australian setting,” he says.

The fully renovated restaurant has postcard views across The Spit waterway and Middle Harbour.  Diners can kick back and wile away a weekend, watching boats sail in and out of the marina as the sun rises, sets or simply glistens in a seafarers wake. An intimate bar has been designed especially to take in the sea breeze, providing the perfect space for relaxing with a Pinot Grigio or a refreshing glass of sparkling Italian Franciacorta any afternoon, or for an after work get together.

Ormeggio also houses a fully serviced kiosk for casual take-away eating with picnic hampers, a selection of Panini and other gourmet delights and coffees for hungry boaters, walkers and picnickers lunching in the newly upgraded park running alongside the marina.

Ormeggio is a welcome new addition to The Spit and its surrounding locales. It is the perfect space for dining, parties, weddings, and private functions of all shapes and sizes; and a stunning new inclusion to Sydney’s hospitality offerings.
